I am Ashley Morgen and I am 26-years-old. I hold a BCom Honours Degree in Marketing Management from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe.
Why are you competing for Miss Africa Calabar 2020?
I am in the running for Miss Africa Calabar 2020 because it is a platform for young ambitious women to forge a path in their respective aspirations – it gives power to a willing voice. The pageant celebrates Africanism and aims to revive our spirit of humanity. I hold a message for Africa to hear, and that is: the fight is against injustices and corruption in Africa, it is not against each other. The aim is to write our history with our hands and that needs unity!
I believe that l have a heart willing to serve – a mind ready to share and a spirit willing to learn.
What solution would you offer for the challenges Africa is facing in terms of the COVID 19 pandemic and other health, governance, and environmental issues?
The pandemic has highlighted issues such as high unemployment, mental health illness, a weak health system, climate change, injustice, and corruption.
My suggested solutions are that one learns a new skill virtually via various free online resources including YouTube, creating diversified streams of income, being kind, and practicing the necessary safety measures. We should go hard and not tire.
We mustn’t just demand human rights, we must claim them. Let’s shake the tables of these issues until we break them!
What would you do with the prize money should you win and what project would you take on to impact Africa at large?
If l emerge a winner l will use part of the prize money to renovate my mother’s home and then start a sustainable business.
To impact Africa at large l would take up the project ‘Bridge the cultural Gap’. This gap makes us believe we are very different people and creating a superiority complex amongst each other when we really are one and stand to achieve so much more together.
It is my wish to implant myself as a goodwill ambassador across the continent in organizations like Miss Africa which have taken it upon themselves to bring together many nations with a pure message of humanity.
