June 05 commemorates the annual World Environment Day and to mark this year’s celebration Queen Gase Balopi held a green walk in the city of Calabar to spread awareness on the theme for this year: ‘Beat plastic pollution’.
If you can’t reuse it, refuse it!
With the United Nations estimating that 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the worlds oceans each year it is important for people to learn how to dispose of waste the right way.
Marching from the Millennium park to the Marina resort where the final clean up of the shores took place people were educated on proper waste disposal and reasons why we must beat plastic pollution. In Queen Gase’s own words “if you can’t reuse it refuse it!”
In her closing remarks she thanked His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade for creating a global platform such as Miss Africa to build and groom young women who in turn will positively impact and change the African continent through worthy causes such as climate change and migration.
She also thanked the Cross River Ministry of Environment, The Cross River Tourism Bureau, NCF,MBGA and the wonderful volunteers who came out in their numbers.
