Bakassi Peninsula was conceded to Cameroon by the International Court of Justice ruling in 2002. Since then, the people there have struggled to survive and settle in a place they can call home.
Reigning Miss Africa Queen Gaseangwe Balopi visited the IDP camp in Bakassi led by the Commissioner for Social Housing, Hon. Edem Effiom. They were also supported by Mediatricks, an NGO pioneered by wife of the Governor, HE Dr. Linda Ayade who provided instant diagnosis and treatment for the people as well as Brencare foundation that specialise in menstrual health and donation of sanitary pads.
Living conditions for people living in IDP camps are much worse across the globe says Queen Gase but thanks to Governor of Cross River State Prof. Ben Ayade for providing succour for the people by providing healthcare and the construction of an estate for the returnees.
Touched by a new born baby at the IDP camp,Queen Gase made a cash donation to support the infants upkeep and also donated relief materials to the camp. Miss Africa Queen Gase Balopi the fearless Queen also went on a tour of the estate constructed by the Cross River State Government and also the border line between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Mediatricks provided medical support and Brencare foundation gave out sanitary pads and menstrual counselling during the course of the visit.
Queen Gase Balopi also pledges to continue to spread the message and get more support for the displaced people of Bakassi in Cross River State.
