ZAMBIA, Gladys Kayumba
I’m 23 years old with a degree in statistics. I am grateful, determined and believe that a hardworking person can achieve anything. If given an opportunity to make a difference in society, I would do it diligently.
What makes you unique?
I am unique because out of 6 billion people in the world there is only one me…there has to be a reason for that. There is beauty in that. Being the only Gladys Kayumba with unique DNA, it is platforms like this that allow me to show not only Africa but the world the beauty within me
What is your understanding of the theme?
Africanism for me means unity amongst Africans. When all countries in Africa decide to preserve the culture and their history, not only for us but by passing it on to the next generation of Africans. It also means as Africans we should preserve our environment for the future generations by practicing the three Rs: REDUCING, REUSING, and RECYCLING. If we want to see our Africans healthy and living and together we should and must protect our environment.
What will you do with the prize money if you win?
I will take some of the money and use it to help out disabled orphans and the less privileged from an orphanage called ‘Helper’ in my country. The other thing I would do is spearhead a campaign called “keep Africa clean” to help with the pollution and litter problems we are facing as a continent.
