TANZANIA, Maria Claverys
I am 24 years old and a graduate from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam. I am looking forward to pursuing a masters of leadership as a scholarship beneficiary at China Women University. I’m signed to Base Models and former Miss Tanzania first runner-up. If I win Miss Africa 2018 Calabar, it’ll be a better chance to proceed my humanitarian work of motivating the young generation to invest in education for the future prosperity of the continent, while promoting Africanism.
What makes you unique?
I believe am unique, It has always been easy for me to interact with people I come across with regardless of our difference in economic level, religious background, political views, ethnicity, and color, with a sense of humor and tolerance.
What is your understanding of the theme?
Africanism means everything that shows and represents all elements of our origin as Africans. It gives us an identity as people with a rich cultural heritage that we have to be proud of. From our foods, music, arts to fashion, our beautiful African origin can be seen and applauded.
What will you do with the prize money if you win?
I will use it as an essential starting point for my own TV show. It will focus on emphasizing and promoting African culture, display our diversity as Africans looking entirely at African fashions and entertainment. It will also talk and inspire Africans to love, appreciate and allow our culture to dominate Africa. I will also highlight unsung heroines to show the world that since time immemorial there have been great women of African, as foreign media tend to show African women as weak. This will also motivate young African women that they are able to achieve great things like the of Queen Nzinga, Nefertiti, Wangari Mathai and Miriam Makeba amongst others.
