CONGO, Dorcus Kasinde
I am a 24-year-old graduate of Management Studies. I’m a goal driven lady with a passion for entrepreneurship and profound love for the diversity of cultures as well as fashion. I’m compassionate, a good listener and a perfectionist who believes in forgiving as the key to peace.
What makes you unique?
I believe in myself so much, I am an outgoing, fun-loving young woman, with a philanthropist’s heart. I believe that there is more happiness to give than to receive. And I am a strong believer of Ubuntu which is a quality that includes the essential human virtue, compassion and humanity.
What is your understanding of the theme “Africanism”?
Africanism is a feature of language or culture reflecting African people. My understanding is that, people from African descent, may they be in Africa or in the diaspora, all carry elements of the African culture in their language, in their beliefs, in their behaviours (African wax our dress, traditional outfit, natural hair, music, art, skin colour) and our story.
What will you do with the prize money if you win?
I want to be the voice of the voiceless, and for the woman; in particular, I want to be an advocated for their right. Our mothers fought so long for gender equality. I can testify that a change has been made but I want join my voice to theirs so that our daughters don’t have to face it too. I will give a certain percentage of my money to Kulisha foundation and Mihigo Foundation in the DRC that has the same vision as me and to other associations around the continent that has the same goal.
